The workers present at the logistic centers of Amazon in places like Germany and Spain went on strike by walking off their jobs on Black Friday. Black Friday is a time when people go on a spending spree due to discounts, which is a way to start off the crucial shopping season for Christmas. Amazon in Germany said that around 620 workers were taking part in the strikes at their Bad Hersfeld and Rheinberg facilities. Still, quite a majority of employees were still at work and hence there was no adverse impact on the orders put forward by the customers.

The Verdi services union of Germany had called for the workers of Amazon to strike for 24 hours till midnight on Friday. Their demand was for better pay along with labor contracts, which would guarantee healthy working conditions. The representative of Verdi, Mechthild Middeke said that they are entering the end of year rush, which happens to be the most stressful time for employees. This is more so on a day likes Black Friday, where employees should be the prime focus. The logistic center of Amazon in Germany said that its jobs offered quite competitive pay along with some really comprehensive benefits right from the very first day of employment. Staff working in Germany earn with a starting salary of 10.78 euros per hour and on an average, earn a monthly wage of 2397 euros after the time period of two years.

At the biggest warehouse of Amazon in Spain, there was a walk off from the job by San Fernando de Henares on Friday and will also go for the strike on Saturday. Unions even said that somewhere between 85 and 90 percent of staff were participating in the industrial action. The office of Amazon in Spain said that the figures did not completely reflect the reality as a major part of the employees was processing their orders. Black Friday comes after the Thanksgiving holiday. It was so named as there would be a rise in the spending in the United States and retailers would traditionally start to earn a profit for the year.
